Get Fit! 5K Run/Walk and One-Mile Walk to support older adult health and fitness by raising much-needed funds for County senior exercise classes and fitness centers. \n\nEvent Details\nThe One-Mile Fun Walk is perfect for our youngest and oldest participants. The 5K race is chip-timed and professionally managed by Charm City Run. To celebrate National Senior Center Month\, National Falls Prevention Day and Active Aging Week\, free fall prevention and health and fitness screenings will be offered\, as well as vendor tables and displays. \nParking: 5K runners and walkers park in Lot 1; one-mile walkers park in Lot 2. \nThe entirety of the route will be on the campus of CCBC Essex. While we made adjustments to our 2026 race plans based on feedback from the Town of St. Michaels\, hosting an event at the Charm City Run standard that our runners expect and deserve was no longer viable. \nWe are very disappointed that the race will not take place\, but wanted to thank our incredible partners at Brooks\, the St. Michaels Police Department\, Talbot County Department of Emergency Services and Sheriff’s Department\, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum\, and our many charitable beneficiaries and volunteers\, all of whom have made this race one of the best on the east coast. \nWe apologize for any inconvenience this may cause\, as we know many of you have started to plan your trip to St. Michaels already. If you deferred your 2025 registration to 2026\, you will receive additional communication from our team on refund and registration options. DESCRIPTION:Ready\, Set\, SNIFF! 5K Race and 1-Mile Walk at the 19th annual BARCStoberfest helps to save homeless animals at BARCS animal shelter. At BARCStoberfest\, you can run or walk as a team with your four-legged friend\, just as yourself or with your fundraising teammates. Here’s how you do it: \n5K Race: Participants in the 5K must register through Runsignup.org by clicking register now above. The race fee is $50\, which also includes an ultra-soft commemorative T-shirt\, a doggie bandana\, and a free drink in the dog-friendly beer garden. \n1-Mile Walk: Participants must first register on the BARCStoberfest site and create a fundraising page. Collect or donate at least $50 to take part in the walk. You must meet the $50 minimum fundraising requirement by the morning of the event. Walkers also receive an ultra-soft T-shirt\, a doggie bandana\, and a free drink in the dog-friendly beer garden. \nWe are asking all runners and walkers to create a personal fundraising page. Your fundraising efforts will help us to care for the over 11\,000 animals that come to BARCS each year. DESCRIPTION:Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center is a nonprofit organization founded by Tom LaMonica in 1981. Tom was a teacher and coach at Friends School of Baltimore and passionately served as our leader until his passing in September 2010. \nThis 5K trail run is a memorial to our founder and we are also celebrating our 40th year! \nTom built Genesee Valley to provide a space for groups to become better teammates and classmates through physical challenges. We continue that tradition today by offering Summer Camp and Team building programs to students and adults that focus on communication\, confidence building\, persistence\, leadership\, and creative problem solving. \nProceeds from this event support our scholarship fund for students and campers who could not otherwise afford to attend Genesee Valley. \nPOST RACE FESTIVAL: Stick around after the race and enjoy some food\, music and beverages. SUMMARY:Valkyrie 5K Run/Walk and 1M Warriors' Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us Sun\, July 30 at 8:30 at Harford Community College to help us outpace pediatric brain cancer. We have partnered with Charm City Run and Harford Community College to benefit the Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN)\, where 100% of donations go directly to research. All proceeds from this race will be donated directly to CBTN. \nThis race is being held in honor of Mackenzie Opdyke of Bel Air\, MD. \nIn July of 2022\, young Mackenzie was diagnosed with a type of brain cancer called a midline glioma. This form of brain cancer\, while rare\, can be particularly aggressive. \nThe Bel Air community\, extended family\, and friends have been exceptionally generous to Mackenzie’s family\, and now they want to give back by raising money for pediatric brain cancer research\, specifically glioma research\, which receives little funding compared to more common cancers. Help ensure ongoing research can help one less family go through what the Opdyke family are experiencing right now. \n
